Welcome

A message from the President

Dear all, I would like to welcome you to the Society's new website, whether you are members or not. You will see that it has changed in appearance, but it has also improved in terms of what it can do for you.

SRHSB Presidents medalParts of it are still under construction, and will be completed soon.
The next SRHSB Annual Scientific Meeting - our 54th - will be held in Vancouver, Canada in early July 2010, and the details can be found here, along with early announcements of other meetings as they become available. You will be able to complete abstract forms for submission for the Annual Scientific Meetings online, and you can also register online for the next meeting in due course.
Reports and photographs from previous meetings are to be seen on the site, for your interest and amusement! You can also read all the abstracts of podium presentations and posters, including those of invited lecturers when available, from the immediately previous Annual Meeting, held in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
The long history of SRHSB has led to accumulation of a considerable archive, much of which is housed in the Wellcome Library in London but some of which will be available on the website.

For members of the Society, there is an area that is accessible only by use of your username and password which will be sent to you by email. This area will contain a facility to pay your subscriptions online (and periodic reminders from the Hon Treasurer when subscriptions are due). The Society Newsletter will also be posted here. There will be reciprocal links to other relevant societies and notices of other meetings of interest. A list of journals in which full papers of your Annual Meeting presentations can be published will be compiled, and anyone who wishes to add to the list should send the journal title and its website link to the SRHSB Webmaster, Waheed Ashraf waheed.ashraf@nottingham.ac.uk. This should serve to encourage new or inexperienced scientists to publish their work in appropriate journals.

Finally, there is an area that the Executive Committee can use to post meeting details, agenda, minutes and messages. This is accessible only to Executive Committee members.

We hope that you are pleased with the new website, which should serve as a resource for existing members as well as attracting new members. As this is a new venture, comments and suggestions from members will be welcome.

We are now preparing for the next Scientific Meeting in Vancouver, and we look forward to receiving abstract submissions from members and non-members early in 2010. Please see the relevant parts of the website for more details, including the Casey Holter Prize Essay.
