Vancouver Meeting 7-10th July 2010

The 54th Annual Meeting of the Society for Research into Hydrocephalus and Spina Bifida will be held in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada (at the University of British Columbia) from July 7-10, 2010 at the invitation of the Department of Paediatrics, UBC.  

Registration: An online registration form is now available on this website. The early registration fee (by June 6th) for members will be in Canadian Dollars C$500, for non-members C$605 and for accompanying persons C$440. Registration fees include all social events and meals for the duration of the conference.

Experimental Hydrocephalus: The aim is to have informal presentations and discussions on topics of Experimental Hydrocephalus that will be presented in a shorter format at the main meeting.

Vancouver local organising committee

The organising committee headed by Dr. W.J.D Arnold (Paediatrician and Head of Local Organising Committee) is accompanied by Dr. Doug Cochrane (Paediatric Neurosurgeon), Dr. Paul Thiessen (Paediatrician and Medical Director of the Spinal Cord Program), Judi Haddy (secretary, Dr. Bill Arnold), Nicola Valentine (Occupational Therapist), Bev Irwin (Nurse Clinician) and Carol King (Physiotherapist). All of them work in the Spinal Cord/Spina Bifida Program at British Columbia Children's Hospital.

The Vancouver committee is very excited about hosting the meeting in Canada for the first time in the Society's history. The scientific sessions will be held at the Ike Barber Center at the University of British Columbia.

Accommodation for delegates will be available in the West Coast Suites, situated on the University Campus, very close to the Ike Barber Center. All the academic and social venues are within walking distance.
The social events will include a welcome reception at the Museum of Anthropology, which was designed by the world famous architect Arthur Erickson. The Thursday Society outing includes a traditional First Nations salmon barbeque luncheon in the Long House at UBC, followed by a dinner cruise through beautiful mountain fjords in beautiful Howe Sound (see below), just a short distance from downtown Vancouver. The accompanying person's program includes a gondola trip and luncheon at the top of Grouse Mountain in North Vancouver, a tour of the Japanese (Natobi) gardens at UBC and tour of the city of Vancouver. The gala dinner will be held at the Cecil Green House, a heritage mansion situated overlooking spectacular Howe Sound. Cecil Green house is situated on the UBC Campus.

Howe Sound: Spectacular Howe Sound is North America's southernmost fjord, located northwest of Vancouver and extending from West Vancouver north to Squamish. Surrounded by towering peaks that rise straight out of the sea, Howe Sound is Vancouver's playground for sailing, diving, camping, hiking, and a host of other recreational activities.
