Annual Scientific Meeting 2012

25-28 July 2012

Carole Sobkowiak is leading members of the Executive Committee who have formed the Local Organising Committee.

York is a beautiful, ancient University City in Northern England; the meeting will be held at the university, where the staff and are delighted at the prospect of having our meeting there.

Accommodation in single and some double en-suite rooms is available on the campus and is within a few minutes' walk of the modern conference facilities and the refectory. For people who prefer to stay in a hotel, there are plenty available in York at varying prices, and information about these can be provided.

The Wednesday Welcome Reception will be in St William's College.

We will concentrate on showcasing the City for the Accompanying Persons programme; the delegates will have the opportunity to walk round the famous Shambles mediaeval street after the Reception, as well as seeing York from a boat on the River Ouse after the Society Outing to Castle Howard which is a short distance away.

The Scientific Programmes will start on the Wednesday morning with the Experimental Hydrocephalus meeting run by Dr Hazel Jones, and the Case Studies meeting run by Dr Mark Luciano. We are grateful to both Hazel and Mark for agreeing to run these Pre-meetings which are always instructive and enjoyable, and urge everyone to attend one of them. We are also looking for educational cases for presentation in the Case reports session, so please send ideas or case summaries to Mark <lucianm@ccf.org>

The main scientific programme will begin on Thursday morning at 0830 until lunchtime, then all day on Friday and on Saturday morning.

Details of special sessions and special lectures will be on the website.

Again, there will be prizes for clinical and non-clinical posters and oral presentations, and a President's Prize.

At this meeting, Dr Margareta Dahl will take over as Society President from Professor Roger Bayston.

Please encourage your colleagues, friends and juniors to attend the meeting and to submit abstracts for consideration for the programme. The abstract form is on the website.

Closing date for abstracts is 9 March 2012.

Changes in Membership

We have said goodbye to 4 longstanding members of the Society. Stephen Brown, Mary White, Nan Hill and Lissa Higgins [Wright] have all retired and changed direction. We wish them all a long and healthy retirement.

Please encourage colleagues to join the Society. If everyone recruited one new member  - a challenge set by the President to the Executive Committee last year! - the Society would be in a very healthy position.

Executive Committee changes

Roger Bayston's term of office as President finishes this year and we are delighted to welcome Margareta Dahl from Uppsala as the new President. She will take office at the Society Dinner on 27 July.

David Nash is the new Membership Secretary and will be working to keep the Membership List up to date and to encourage new members.

Roger Strachan has served 2 terms as Honorary Treasurer during which time he has worked tirelessly to get the Society finances into good order - including getting people to pay their Annual Subscriptions. He stands down in July 2012.

Hugh Richards stands down as one of the Publication Secretaries in July, and Marcus Pauly will fill his post.

We are looking for a Publications Secretary Elect for 2012, to replace Deborah Sival in 2013.

Rosemary Batchelor is due to stand down as Honorary Secretary in 2013 and a Hon Secretary Elect is now needed.

If you feel that you would like to take on any of these posts, or have suggestions for people to stand for any of them, please contact the Hon Secretary.

Subscription changes

The annual fee for Ordinary Members is £75 from 1 January 2012. This is the first increase in subscriptions for 15 years and is still one of the lowest subscriptions for a research society.

Senior Members pay £30

A Student rate of £25 has been introduced.

Please look at the website if you feel that you qualify for Senior or Student rate.

We look forward to seeing you all in York. Please watch for more details on the website and remember that the closing date for abstracts is 24 February.
