Renew Annual Membership Subscription
It was agreed at the ASM in Nottingham last summer that a modest
rise in the Subscription Fee to £75 would be introduced in 2012.
However, the Senior Member Fee would remain at £30, and a Student
Fee of £25 introduced. To make the system more straightforward, the
£75 fee is the same for all, irrespective of how you pay and by
what method, and will now include the transaction or encashment
fee, so in real terms is a smaller increase than it appears.
Remember, if you are an Honorary member, you don't have
to pay.
The facility to pay through myself by credit card, using a
credit card terminal, is being withdrawn as it no longer meets the
industry requirements for data security, and it will be too
expensive to make the system compliant.
Please use the link below to pay by credit card - you do not
need a PayPal account to do so. We are simply using PayPal as a
secure payment gateway that is affordable to the Society.

A decision to list members who have defaulted on payment will be
published through the Society website. This was agreed at the last
AGM, and will allow members to see if their subscription is
up-to-date.
I can also accept foreign currency cheques if posted to me at my
business address (Department of Neurosurgery, James Cook University
Hospital, Marton Road, Middlesbrough TS4 3BW, UK). These should be
payable to Society for Research into Hydrocephalus and Spina
Bifida, and be the foreign currency equivalent of £67, to cover
encashment costs.
Subscriptions have not changed for the last 15 years. It was
also agreed at the AGM that, for Ordinary members, it should rise
to £75 next year, to help meet additional costs. However, this is
to be the same fee for all, regardless of the method of payment.
The fee for senior members will remain at £30, and a new Student
membership is to be introduced at £25.
Please remember that your annual subscription allows you to
register for the ASM at a reduced cost, equivalent to the cost of
the subscription.
UK members paying by Standing Order
Currently, your subscription is paid to the Society by Standing
Order at the beginning of each year. This has been very successful
for the Society in ensuring that your subscription is paid. Because
costs are increasing, it was agreed at the AGM that there should
now be a modest increase in the subscription to £75 for ordinary
members from 2012. Remember, the subscription rate has not changed
for at least 15 years, and remains a tax-deductable expense. For
Senior member (those who have retired from full-time practice), the
subscription remains unaltered at £30. Your subscription continues
to allow you to register for the ASM at a reduced cost, equivalent
to your annual subscription, gives you access to all the
information on the Website, and keeps you informed by Newsletters
via email.
I would therefore be grateful if you would log-in to your online
banking, or otherwise contact your bank, and alter your standing
order for January 2012. Please do it now before you forget.
If you are to become a senior member by the end of the year,
please remember to reduce your Standing Order amount accordingly,
and notify myself and the webmaster (Waheed Ashraf) of your change
in membership status.
Yours sincerely,
Roger Strachan
Hon Treasurer
